Migrate Teams Messages: As per the latest update from Google Workspace, you can migrate messages from Microsoft Teams to Google Chat. Admins now migrate conversations from channels in MS Teams to spaces in Google Chat. Google Workspace offers a data migration service to import data into the Google Workspace account. You can migrate email, chat, and files to the Google Workspace account. Google Workspace admins perform migration messages from channels to Google Chat in the admin console. This feature is currently available for all Google Workspace users.
Chat migration – New data migration service
Use chat migration, the new data migration service, to migrate users’ chat messages from channels in Microsoft Teams to your organization’s Google Workspace account. You set up the migration in the Google Admin console, and the migration process takes place in the cloud. Before performing chat migration, check the following requirements.
Setup steps for Google Workspace
- A super administrator must run the migration.
- You must give each Google Workspace user a user account before they can sign in and use Google services.
- Chat migration only migrates data to the accounts of existing users.
- It doesn’t create user accounts from the data it migrates.
- You need to turn on the Google Chat service for the users in your target account.
- Before your users can start to use Google services, they need a user license.
Complete the following actions in your Google Admin console:
- Turn off auto-deletion.
- Automatically accept chat invitations.
Requirements for Microsoft Teams
- A user with the Global Administrator role.
- A good comprehension of your Team’s setup.
- To understand your teams’ hierarchy, you can export a list of your teams as a comma-separated values (CSV) file.
Steps to Migrate Teams Messages to Google Chat
- First, you should connect to your Microsoft account.
- Then, upload a CSV of the teams from where you want to migrate the messages.
3. Specify the source-to-destination identity mapping by uploading a CSV of the email IDs from source to target.
4. Next, enter the starting date for messages to be migrated from Teams.
- Then, begin your data migration.
- Finally, you’ll complete the migration by making migrated spaces, messages, and related conversation data available to Google Workspace users.
Note: You can only migrate data to accounts of existing users with a user license & the Google Chat service turned on.
For performing migration one should be a Google Workspace super admin and a Microsoft team’s global administrator.

- Messages that are already successfully migrated are skipped.
